What are some common troubleshooting issues?
Nearly all keg dispensing issues can be traced back to:
+ Improper temperature
+ Improper pressure
+ Cleaning problems
Quick checklist:
+ Is the keg stored between 36°-38° F?
+ Is the beer kept at the same temperature from storage all the way to the point of dispense?
+ Is the CO2 pressure maintained between 12-14 pounds?
+ Are the beer line, faucet and keg coupler cleaned on a regular basis with specifically-manufactured beer hose cleaning chemicals?
Wild Beer: When poured, beer is either all foam or has too much foam
Potential issues:
+ The beer is too warm
+ The CO2 pressure is too high
+ The faucet is poor quality, dirty or worn
+ The beer hose may have kinks, twists or other obstructions
+ The beer isn't being poured properly
Flat Beer: The beer's foamy head disappears quickly and lacks a fresh-brewed flavor
Potential issues:
+ The beer is too cold
+ The CO2 pressure is too low
+ Dirty glassware
Cloudy Beer: Beer appears hazy in glass - not clear
Potential issues:
+ The beer is too cold - possibly frozen
+ The beer may be old or have been left un-refrigerated for long periods of time
+ The faucet, beer hose and/or keg coupler may be dirty
+ Dirty glassware
False Head: Beer yields large soap-like bubbles, and the head disappears very quickly
Potential issues:
+ Can be caused by film or soap that remains on glassware
+ The beer may have been poured improperly
